mr.Grim
My latest custom was a created for the PVC show through deliciousdrips.com. This show was a call for entries where each artist would purchase and create their own custom DIY Skullyboom. mr.Grim turned out to by my third overall idea for this piece. I originally wanted to do an antique type clock with moving gears, copper/brass patina and still be a functional clock. I didn’t give myself enough time to find exactly what I needed in order to complete that idea, so I moved onto the next thought. I had an extra mini-Munny sitting around and didn’t really know what I wanted to do with it and then the though came to me about mashing these two DIY platforms together. My first idea for the mash up was to create a Scorpion character from Mortal Kombat. After I got working on it, I didn’t like how the sculpt was turning out, so I went to plan C – mr.Grim.
This piece was created by cutting a hole in the bottom of the skully, inserting a mini-Munny head joint and sculpting it into the Skully. I didn’t want to take an easy way out and just put a hole in the Skully and place it on the Munny. I wanted the head to remain articulated and for me this seemed like the best way to do it. The rest of the piece, tuxedo and bow-tie, were sculpted with Super-Sculpey and then painted with acrylics and spray paint. The sickle accessory was also made with Super-Sculpey and a TMNT weapon I had sitting around. The eye panels in the Skully were cut out and the interior was sprayed with a gloss black. The outside of the Skull was hit with some acrylics to get a base layer down and then coated with a white spray and then detailed with more acrylic.
There are few pieces that are still active for voting (*voting is now closed*) due to later entry, but the bulk of the entries are closed for voting. There was a great turn out for this show and there were some seriously amazing pieces. mr.Grim is available for sale on my Big Cartel store.
